Here's what's coming off my bench. It still needs a label, clear pickguard, swap out saddle & bridge pins, and a case from Access, if they ever arrive...

Grenadillo B & S
Engleman top & braces
Mahogany back braces
Mahogany one piece neck
Cocobolo bridge, binding, end wedge, headstock overlays and scrap samples (Thanks to Bob Cefalu)
Ebony FB 12" Radius, 25.4" scale, gold tube side dots (Thanks to Paul Woolson)
Gold Goto tuners 18:1 ratio
K & K pure western mini pickups (Bruce Dickey-you're SO gracious!) Bruce's link for K & K pickups

NOTE: Bridge outline is NOT mine. I used a slightly modified Lance Kragenbrink/John Osthoff design till I work out my own. I just don't want to take credit for somone else's work here.

This guitar is getting broken in Wednesday 11/9 at a Rita Springer concert at my church, day before my birthday! What a treat all the way 'round. And I just celebrated my 11th yr anniversary, and have a baby due, all in one week!

Life's good, God's GREAT.

This one is just with Zpoxy. Can't tell can you?

Beauutiful work Terry! Congrats!    And here I thought "Grenadillo" was the red stuff they used to put in Shirley Temples!

Thanks Bob, the baby's due the 14th.
Bruce- He's the third child. Pix of the whole family later....

The finish is ktm-9. Grits 400, 600, 1000, 1500 then to micromesh, med & fine buffing wheel, and then lotsa elbow grease with the Meguire's swirl remover. Perhaps a #7 THEN swirl remover. We'll see. I've got another d-28 ready for sanding/buffing. That finishes curing when the baby's due.

I left the nck sanded to 1000 and straight to swirl remover to even out the finish. KTM-9 feels MUCH better in satin than gloss on the neck. I did polish the headplate veneers. The pix makes it look REALLY cheesy though.

The guitar is listening to Phil Keaggy while I type this, maybe that'll make it open up when I'm not playing it. Is that cheating?

Niiiice...how 'bout you give us a nice full frontal so we can appreciate the shape fully? Also, where would one find Grenadillo sets at decent prices? I've seen a good number of guitars made out of it so far, and each has been more beautiful than the last.

Lmi had them for $63/set. Frontal shot to follow, got a lot to do today.... BTW It's a Taylor GC style body

Good looking pics!

I am envious of you guys that are getting such a nice finish with KTM-9. It may be that I am just not doing it right. How many coats did you use?

John

Hi John, I think it was about 10, with a 4 stage hvlp. It sprayed well. On a bad spray day, I tried a foam brush for a couple coats on a DIFFERENT guitar, level sanded, then switched to spray. I don't miss the nitro outgassing, but I do miss the clarity of nitro. They're different animals for sure. But I don't have a spray booth, so waterbourn is what I'll use for the time. I still have a 1/3 gallon of nitro though...Terry Stowell38664.4983333333

Hey Terry,

Very nice work. Lovely shape & well executed details. Nice finish too!

I used Grenadillo (and Englemann) from LMI for my 1st guitar waaay back in 2004 . How did you like using it? I thought it tapped beautifully ... glassy, long sustain, loud. The resulting guitar has a very nice balanced tone with lotsa sustain. I also thought the Grenadillo was easy enough to work with chisels & plane.

How do you like the K&K Pure Western mini pickup system? I'm considering getting the same for my current slope dred project. I am building this one for a friend & don't want to spend his $$ unwisely.

Great looking instument, the colors of the different woods go really well together! Congrats on all the rest too! (I'm somewhat in the same boat as you by the way, we're expecting our third child, but not until April).

Arnt stole my thunder. I was going to say--well I guess I'll go ahead and say it again--I really think you did a fine job on the wood choices. The combination is really pleasing. Good job!
